(+) VENDORS WERE KICKED OUT OF CBD
In July, the Nairobi government forced hawkers out of the CBD, following protests against their invasion of the key streets. Some traders who own shops in the city centre protested against the street vendor’s presence in prime areas. County officials carted away hawkers’ wares in vans after they refused to voluntarily relocate to markets designated for them. The hawkers accused the county of evicting them without giving them alternative land. “They defied a court order restraining them from evicting us,” a hawker said.
