(+) 5 STOREYS COLLAPSED IN 2015
On April 30 last year the NCA stopped construction in Kisii town of 20 buildings, including those by the National Housing Corporation. The NCA said the buildings did not meet safety standards. Engineer Chrispus Ndiyo, in charge of compliance at the NCA, said some developers hire unqualified contractors. Later in May, the authority stopped construction of 280 houses in the town, citing non-compliance with standards. This was triggered by the collapse of a five-storey building in Jogoo estate on April 16.
