KPA, USIU off to Mozambique for Africa ball show
Kenya’s representatives Kenya Ports Authority (women) and United States international University depart tomorrow for the FIBA Africa Club Championships in Maputo, Mozambique.
While USIU will be leaving early Wednesday morning via Ethiopian Airline, KPA will depart from Moi international Airport Mombasa at 8am board Kenya Airways to Nairobi before connecting to Maputo at 11.00 am.
Both teams have exuded confidence that they will post good results despite stiff competition from their opponents. KPA women head coach Anthony Ojukwu yesterday said the team was in high spirits ahead of the championships. “We have prepared well and we have some of the best talents in the county. I guess sky is limit,” Ojukwu said as the team went through the morning training session in Mombasa.
Ojukwu, whose KPA last participated in this championships in 2015 in Tunisia, said he will be carrying only three players from the squad that was in the last squad.
They are Natalie Achieng ,Yvonne Akinyi and Helen Oketch. Betty Kananu, Belinda Akinyi, Nercy Wanyama, Felmas Adhiambo and Seline Okumu will be playing at this championships for the first time.
The other members of the squad have had experience with other teams at that level among them Samba Mjomba, Hilda Indasi and Annrose Mandela.
