KPA, USIU off to Mozam­bique for Africa ball show

Kenya’s rep­re­sen­ta­tives Kenya Ports Author­ity (women) and United States in­ter­na­tional Univer­sity de­part to­mor­row for the FIBA Africa Club Cham­pi­onships in Ma­puto, Mozam­bique.

While USIU will be leav­ing early Wed­nes­day morn­ing via Ethiopian Air­line, KPA will de­part from Moi in­ter­na­tional Air­port Mom­basa at 8am board Kenya Air­ways to Nairobi be­fore con­nect­ing to Ma­puto at 11.00 am.

Both teams have ex­uded con­fi­dence that they will post good re­sults de­spite stiff com­pe­ti­tion from their op­po­nents. KPA women head coach An­thony Ojukwu yes­ter­day said the team was in high spir­its ahead of the cham­pi­onships. “We have pre­pared well and we have some of the best tal­ents in the county. I guess sky is limit,” Ojukwu said as the team went through the morn­ing train­ing ses­sion in Mom­basa.

Ojukwu, whose KPA last par­tic­i­pated in this cham­pi­onships in 2015 in Tu­nisia, said he will be car­ry­ing only three play­ers from the squad that was in the last squad.

They are Natalie Achieng ,Yvonne Akinyi and He­len Oketch. Betty Kananu, Belinda Akinyi, Nercy Wanyama, Fel­mas Ad­hi­ambo and Se­line Okumu will be play­ing at this cham­pi­onships for the first time.

The other mem­bers of the squad have had ex­pe­ri­ence with other teams at that level among them Samba Mjomba, Hilda In­dasi and An­nrose Man­dela.
