KILLER BREW BACK ON MARKET, DEATHS REPORTED
In September, former Nacada chairman John Mututho said illicit brews were back in the market, despite efforts by President Uhuru Kenyatta to eliminate illicit liquor and treat alcoholism. He said the brews had claimed 30,000 lives since 2009 and faulted lenient laws for emboldening the brewers. “We have received several cases of deaths from illicit brews countrywide again, and yet we were almost over it,” he said. He said the agency needs to be empowered to make it effective in ending the crisis.
