Kerio Valley now safe, come back, leaders tell traders
Fruit farmers in Kerio Valley continue to count losses after traders fled the area, following community clashes, cattle theft and banditry.
Mangoes, oranges, bananas and tomatoes are rotting in the farms.
“We are appealing to traders from Nairobi and other parts of the country to come back to Kerio Valley,” Endo MCA Festus Kirop said.
Peace has been restored and more police reservists have been deployed to the area, he told the press in Iten town.
Elgeyo Marakwet Agriculture executive Shadrack Yatich said peace has been restored in Endo, Sambirir and Arror wards.
“Let us not be scared by attacks. Kerio Valley is now calm and security in under control,” he said.
