Garissa to widen revenue collection net, waive 90 per cent interest on land arrears
Garissa county will next month launch a new revenue collection method.
Speaking to the press in Garissa town yesterday, county secretary Mohamud Mursal said the Treasury department will widen its net by collecting land rates from more areas.
He said the county will for one month waive 90 per cent of the interest charges on land arrears to encourage landowners to pay the fees.
Mursal said Garissa has recruited 200 clerks who will be posted across the county. He said they will be given appointed letters by December.
“Revenue collection has been steady, but way below our projections,” Mursal said.
In 2013-14, the county collected Sh130 milllion, while for 2014-15 and 2015-16, the county collected around Sh120 million each year.
