Flaws in Bungoma procurement process – audit
A report by the Auditor General for 2014-15 has revealed massive flaws in the procurement procedures in the Bungoma government.
In the report, the Auditor General points out that contracts worth Sh493 million were not supported with the original signed tender evaluation reports, tender award minutes and other supporting documents. The report indicates that a firm was awarded a tender for construction of three water kiosks and an extension of a water pipeline in Township ward for Sh3.9 million. However, a field visit revealed that water kiosks were not fully utilised by residents, since the township area was already connected with water.
It also shows a feasibility study was not carried out before initiating the project. The report also points out that a firm was awarded a contract for protection of Chetambe Springs and Nakoyonjo Water Project extension for Sh3.4 million.
