The 250 housing units for civil servants in Kisumu will be completed by early next year. Civil Servants’ Housing Scheme Fund director Joseph Ngayai, while touring the site at Shaurimoyo in Kisumu Central subcounty on Wednesday, said the project is 73 per cent complete. He said it is part of the government’s efforts to address housing shortage for civil servants. The Sh729 million project was started in July last year. Once complete, civil servants will have the opportunity to buy the houses under a tenant purchase scheme based on their job groups. Ngayai said based on the provisional cost, one bedroom will go for Sh2.5million, two-bedroom units will cost about Sh4.3million and three bedroom for Sh6.1million. He said 40 units will be rented. Ngayai said the contractor requested extension of construction period after doing 74 weeks out of the 81 he was to take.
