Visa launches 4th edi­tion an­nual card se­cu­rity week

Global pay­ments firm Visa yes­ter­day launched the fourth edi­tion of its an­nual card se­cu­rity week cam­paign in Kenya. The drive fo­cuses on rais­ing aware­ness on the mul­ti­ple lay­ers of se­cu­rity in place to pro­tect card­hold­ers from fraud when mak­ing pay­ments in store, on­line or through mo­bile. “To­day’s com­plex global pay­ment sys­tems are im­mersed in vast amounts of data, which is be­ing used to de­velop an ad­di­tional layer of de­fense that de­tects fraud­u­lent trans­ac­tions be­fore they take place,” Visa gen­eral man­ager East and South­ern Africa Jabu Ba­sopo said. He said so­phis­ti­ca­tion of fraud­sters has called for a global shift from mag­netic stripe cards to chip­based EMV cards, to in­crease fraud pro­tec­tion in the com­ing years.
