Well-connected and unscrupulous land barons and ranchers are to blame for delays in solving land problems, the Lamu county government has said. Secretary Siyat Ousman on Monday said despite vigorous efforts by the county, private developers and ranchers derail the process, as they have a “stranglehold” on land issues. Ousman said despite President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive last year cancelling the issued title deeds in Lamu, the land issue is still marred by speculation and anxiety. “There is a group of individuals at the Lands registry who collude with private developers to alter records in their favour,” he said.
