Samonye, Chechichir set to defend crowns

elle/ Defending champions Robert Samonye (men) and Rebecca Chepchirchir (women) are expected to defend their titles during this year’s World Aids Day Marathon in Kisumu tomorrow.
Samonye will be up against Benson Nakeri, Elphas Kiprop, Mark Lukwamoi, Bernard Bor and Edward Kirwa in the men’s race while Chepchirchir will face Sally Chepketer, Ednah Kimutai, Dianah Cheprono in the women’s category.
Athletics Kenya (AK) Nyanza North public relations officer, Jared Gilo said they expect a number of foreign runners take part in the race. “We have nine Americans coming to participate in the race led by the co-sponsor of the race Richard Brodsky and his wife, who have featured in the event since inception since inception to take part in this race,” he added.
Gilo also said apart from the Americans, they also expect runners from neighbouring Uganda and Tanzania to take part.
