NCIC officer called to explain evidence against Kabogo
A senior NCIC investigator has been summoned to court to clarify evidence that links Kiambu Governor William Kabogo to disparaging utterances against Cord leader Raila Odinga.
During celebrations to mark musician John de Mathew’s 30-year music career at Thika Stadium on October 25 last year, Kabogo allegedly said “foreskins inhibit thinking”. The statement was taken to be directed at Raila .
Milimani senior principal magistrate Martha Mutuku ordered chief investigating officer Robert Mabera to appear before her on December 14.
He is expected to shed more light on the case after a witness was unable to verify the correspondence between the NCIC and the prosecution.
The prosecution applied to have the investigator summoned after his colleague John Kamau was unable to explain the authenticity of witness statements and footage used as evidence against Kabogo.
The witness, who was being crossexamined by Kabogo’s lawyers, told the court he was unaware of the letters that recommended Kabogo’s prosecution.
Kamau said it is only the chief investigating officer who can explain why the NCIC and DPP decided to charge the governor.
