Twenty eight MCAs from Trans Nzoia County were detained at a hotel in Athi River town on Saturday. They were detained at Inter Leisure Hotel after reportedly failing to clear their Sh578,050 bill. They had checked in on August 24.

“We decided to lock the hotel’s main entrance to deny the MCA exit after we got information that they had planned to escape at 5:00am without clearing their bills,” a staffer told the Star at the hotel on Saturday.

The staff, who sought anonymity for fear of victimisation, said the MCAs claimed their expenses were to be settled by the Water CS Eugene Wamalwa. The CS distanced himself with the MCAs predicament.

Wamalwa said he was neither aware of the ward representative’s trip nor their being held up at the hotel.
