Farmers counting losses after floods destroy crops, kill cows
Farmers in Riwo ward, West Pokot county are counting losses after heavy rains pounded the area killing three cows. Crops were destroyed in five villages.
The floods wiped out maize, sorghum, groundnuts, bananas, vegetables and millet fields affecting more than 50 farmers, after River Kapoiny broke its banks. The floods have destroyed over 20 acres in Simotwo, Poole , Cheleketeno, Kalapachon and Sekenion.
Riwo ward rep David Alekulem, who visited the area, said the affected families are in dire need of food aid.
