Nyeri assembly to hold first sitting, elect speaker on Thursday
The Nyeri assembly (pictured) will hold its first sitting on Thursday with MCAs’ first agenda being the election of the speaker. The first sitting of the second assembly will start at 9am. MCAs will be sworn in then go ahead to elect the speaker. The speaker job has attracted more than 10 applicants who have engagedin intense lobbying. MCAs will attend a pre-swearing in briefing on Wednesday afternoon. The assembly has 30 elected ward representatives and 14 nominated ones. Last week, there were protests after the gazetted list of the nominated MCAs was published without setting aside slots for people living with disability and special groups.
