Six-month-old baby killed in Mwingi crash, scores in­jured

A six-month-old baby died in a road ac­ci­dent along the Mwingi - Garissa road on Satur­day as sev­eral pas­sen­gers sus­tained se­ri­ous in­juries.

The ac­ci­dent in­volved a Probox and a Toy­ota Wish. The Probox was com­ing from Mwingi and head­ing to Nguni while the Toy­ota Wish was from Garissa and was on its way to Mwingi.

The Wish hit the Probox on the side cause it to land in a ditch. The in­fant died on the spot and six other oc­cu­pants of the car sus­tained in­juries.

The Probox driver, who sought anonymity, said ev­ery­thing happ­pened quickly and he only re­mem­bers see­ing the other car try­ing to avoid hit­ting a goat, which was cross­ing the road.

“I can’t tell where I have been in­jured since my whole body is in pain. There is no elec­tric­ity in the hospi­tal. We could not get X-rays in time and con­tin­ued bleed­ing es­pe­cially those with bro­ken limbs,” said the driver.

The body of the baby was taken to Mwingi hospi­tal mor­tu­ary for post­mortem.
