Power station construction gathers speed

The project for the Paektusan Songun Youth Power Station which is being built in three tiers in the upper reaches of the Sodu River, Paegam County, Ryanggang Province, is an uphill task that faces the worst natural and geographical conditions in the history of building hydroelectric power stations in the country.

Young builders, who volunteered to the construction site with a pride that they build a monument of youth in the Paektu area, have pushed ahead with the construction for years despite the biting cold of northern area.

They already inaugurated power station No 1 earlier than schedule and completed the rock-filled dam of power station No 2 and waterway tunnel of power station No 3.

Supreme leader Kim Jong Un’s April visit to the construction site stimulated the enthusiasm of youth shock brigade members to round off the construction of power stations Nos 1 and 2 till the 70th anniversary of the Party founding.

The army-people joint headquarters control execution of construction scrupulously to accelerate all the projects simultaneously including the concrete tamping for the dam of power station No 1 and coating of waterway tunnel of power station No 2.

Thanks to the devoted efforts of the builders, the overall construction speed has doubled over the past, with a result that the looks of the construction site change with each passing day.

Especially, concrete tamping of the dam of power station No 1 is progressing at a fast pace.

Those from South Hamgyong Province, together with the builders of the Namgang Hydroelectric Power Station Construction Company, overfulfil daily concrete tamping assignments by introducing a construction method for lowering the inside temperature of the concreted dam.

Those of North Phyongan and Hamgyong provinces in charge of the construction of power station No 2 introduced advanced construction methods to speed up the coating of waterway tunnel and ensure the quality of construction.

Meanwhile, soldier builders push the construction of generator room for power station No 2, sluice way and dwelling houses for the residents in flooded areas and concrete tamping of the bottom and wall of surge tank.
