Win­ners of 14th Eco­nomic Es­say Con­test an­nounced

The Korea Times is pleased to an­nounce the win­ners of the 14th English Eco­nomic Es­say Con­test for univer­sity stu­dents on two sub­jects: “Should Korea reg­u­late cryp­tocur­ren­cies?” for ap­pli­cants in Korea, and “Sug­ges­tions for spurring Korea’s eco­nomic growth” for those from abroad.

Kim Jung-hyun, a busi­ness ad­min­is­tra­tion ma­jor at Korea Univer­sity, won the Grand Award for ap­pli­cants in Korea, and the over­seas win­ner was Olivia Han, a his­tory ma­jor at Bos­ton Univer­sity.

Kim will re­ceive a round-trip ticket from In­cheon to Los An­ge­les, while Han will get a round-trip ticket from her home­town to In­cheon.

The two run­ner-ups are Kim Chee-sue, a se­nior at Seoul Na­tional Univer­sity, and Aaron Tay­lor Lefler-Moore of the Univer­sity of Cincin­nati. Each will re­ceive a lap­top com­puter.

The three com­men­da­tion awards went to Min Sung-jun, a busi­ness ad­min­is­tra­tion ma­jor at Hong Kong Univer­sity; Park Min-jei, a po­lit­i­cal sci­ence ma­jor at Swarth­more Univer­sity; and Sean Bahk, an eco­nom­ics ma­jor at Yon­sei Univer­sity. Each will get a round-trip ticket be­tween Gimpo and Jeju Is­land.

They will re­ceive their awards at a cer­e­mony on Nov. 15 at the Plaza Ho­tel in Seoul. Their es­says will be pub­lished in that day’s edi­tion of The Korea Times.
