Event marks ‘Sfax’ as Capital of Arab Culture

Kuwait partakes in celebratio­n

TUNIS, July 24, (KUNA): Tunisia launched Saturday the state celebratio­n of choosing the central city of Sfax as a capital of Arab culture, with a Kuwaiti participat­ion.

The event commenced with an Operetta themed “Sfax Land of Resistance”.

A Kuwaiti delegation headed by Dr Tahani Al-Adwani, of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) is participat­ing in the event.

This participat­ion is meant to cement bilateral culture relations and cooperatio­n with Tunisia, Al-Adwan told KUNA.

She added that Kuwait will also contribute to Tunisia’s celebratio­ns, which will last till March 17th, 2017, with a variety of activities, such as organizing Kuwaiti Culture Weeks.

Al-Adwani also emphasized the importance of culture in promoting the values of tolerance and dialogue among Arab youth.

Addressing the audience, Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi called for making the most of “Sfax, 2016 Capital of Arab Culture” campaign to promote the region’s cultural heritage, boost the economy and counter terrorism and extremism.

He stated that the campaign will be held

under the motto “No to violence, No to terrorism ... Tunisia for the culture of life.”
