Act­ing Dean of Col­lege of Life Sciences Dr Me­shari Al-Harbi dis­closed that the launch of Masters in Sci­ence (Food and Environment Poi­son­ing) course pro­gram was ap­proved by the Kuwait Univer­sity Pres­i­dent on Aug 7.

He ex­plained that the pro­gram aims at pre­par­ing grad­u­ates who are sci­en­tif­i­cally and tech­ni­cally qual­i­fied to deal with the emerg­ing chal­lenges in the field of food and en­vi­ron­men­tal tox­i­col­ogy to en­sure safer environment and food.

Peo­ple with this spe­cial­iza­tion can work in the pub­lic or pri­vate in­dus­trial sec­tor, re­search lab­o­ra­to­ries and aca­demic in­sti­tu­tions. They can also work in the Food Con­trol Depart­ment of Kuwait Mu­nic­i­pal­ity, Min­istry of Com­merce and In­dus­try, en­vi­ron­men­tal pro­tec­tion au­thor­i­ties, Food and Nu­tri­tion Depart­ment of Min­istry of Health and other bod­ies that deal with food pro­duc­tion.

The course is a joint pro­gram by the de­part­ments of Food and Nu­tri­tion Sci­ence and En­vi­ron­men­tal Tech­nol­ogy. It aims at com­bin­ing food sci­ence, en­vi­ron­men­tal tech­nol­ogy and tox­i­co­log­i­cal prin­ci­ples to pro­vide tech­ni­cal skills as well as man­age­ment knowl­edge to de­velop ef­fec­tive food and en­vi­ron­men­tal test­ing poli­cies, and en­sure safe environment and safe food for all Kuwaitis.
