Women should live free of violence, and oppression – Kuwaiti diplomat
Kuwait bound to women’s empowerment
NEW YORK, Oct 13, (KUNA): Kuwait believes that every woman and girl, anywhere in the world, has the right to live a life free of violence and oppression, a mission representative at the United Nations said on Thursday.
Violence and oppression are grave breaches of human rights, leading to dangerous repercussions on their lives and their health, and are an obstacle to sustainable development, said Kuwait’s Diplomatic Attache.
A stronger political will and an innovative approach to the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women and girls everywhere are needed, Saba Al-Fehaid told the General Assembly.
She pointed out the recent rise in women-led campaigns targeting several urgent issues they face globally, such as sexual harassment and violence.
This increases the need to shed light on these matters, and how to best resolve them, said Al-Fehaid.
Kuwait is committed to women’s empowerment, which it places on its list of development-related priorities, she said, praising the UN’s insertion of the topic as one of its Sustainable Development Goals.
