‘Loopholes exonerate criminals’:
Head of the Psychology Department at Kuwait University Dr Oweid Al-Meshaan said the loopholes in laws exonerate drug traders, hence, the need for thorough review of legislation to tighten control and combat drugs, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Speaking on a program on Al-Shahed TV, Al-Meshaan explained a drug addict is a sick person who needs to be treated while, highlighting the important role played by family and friends, in addition to the awareness role that should be played by ministries in order to reach out to all segments of society.
He said the ‘Gheras’ awareness project achieved resounding success in terms of reaching out to all segments of society in the fight against drugs; but unfortunately, it was suspended due to lack of government support. He revealed the project was the brainchild of former minister of interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid.
