BSK supports Sidra Association
For a number of years now the coordination of global efforts to raise awareness of Breast Cancer has meant that educational and fundraising events in this area have become firmly established as important events on the annual calendar at this time of year. The British School of Kuwait (BSK) has been associated with this most worthy of causes for over ten years now and this year was, of course, no exception. First launched back in 2002, the fundraising baton has since been passed to successive groups of students who, led by the Sixth Form, work together to organize a month long program of events.
This year the Pink Saturday program of activities was coordinated by Year 13 students Abdulrahman Alsaleh, Leena Albader, and Joesephina Saager in support of Al Sidra Association for Psychological Care of Cancer Patients. As always, there has been a wide range of fundraising activities taking place throughout the month, the highlight of which was undoubtedly the Pink Saturday event that took place on Saturday 17 October 2015. A host of Sixth Form student-led activities were on offer, including face-painting, arts corner, sporting challenges, and the ever popular Soak the Teacher! Among the entertainment provided on stage were performances from the BSK RandB music group led by Simon Amura, and the BAIA Dance group led by Alley Hunter. Another highlight was the BSK Staff Bake-off, featuring stunning baked creations by staff at the school. Representing Al Sidra at the event were Executive Director Manal Shadeed, Clinic Coordinator Shebina Amlani, and Information Officer Karen Webster.
BSK is proud to lead the way in promoting social responsibility as part of its philosophy of education, something which the senior students have exemplified in having organized such a successful event in aid of so worthy a cause. BSK is pleased to acknowledge the invaluable support of IFA International Travel and Tourism, Alsayer Group Holding (Toyota), Aroobfit Centre, and the Regency Hotel Kuwait whose generosity has helped raise almost KD3000 so far, and ensured the success of the event. BSK would also like to thank Alexia Lodge, the wife of HE the British Ambassador; Catherine Silliman, the wife of HE the American Ambassador; Viv Anthony, President of the British Ladies Society Kuwait; Lynda Van Greenstone, President of the AWL; Michelle Blackett, President of the IWG; and Manal Shadeed, Executive Director of Al-Sidra Association, for joining Madame Vera AlMutawa, Director and Founder of BSK, on stage to open this special event.
