Big sports event to be held at Jaber Sta­dium by year’s end: Cab­i­net min­is­ter

KUWAIT: Min­is­ter of State for Cab­i­net Af­fairs Sheikh Mo­ham­mad Al-Ab­dul­lah Al-Mubarak AlSabah said yes­ter­day that a big sports event would be held at Jaber Al-Ah­mad In­ter­na­tional Sta­dium by year-end at the be­hest of His High­ness the Amir and His High­ness the Crown Prince.

Speak­ing to KUNA on the side­lines of yes­ter­day’s cab­i­net meet­ing, the min­is­ter said: “We are plan­ning to hold a sports event at Jaber Al-Ah­mad In­ter­na­tional Sta­dium by year-end.”

A min­is­te­rial com­mit­tee, chaired by First Deputy Prime Min­is­ter and For­eign Min­is­ter Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Ha­mad Al-Sabah in­spected on Sun­day the in­ter­na­tional sta­dium, which ful­fills high spec­i­fi­ca­tions and tech­nol­ogy and is sup­plied with so­phis­ti­cated equip­ment, fa­cil­i­ties and safety and se­cu­rity sys­tems.

The com­mit­tee said a grand cer­e­mony would be or­ga­nized for the open­ing of the Kuwaiti sta­dium. The com­mit­tee com­prises Min­is­ter of In­for­ma­tion and Min­is­ter of State for Youth Af­fairs Sheikh Sal­man Sabah Salem Al-Hu­moud Al-Sabah, Min­is­ter of State for Cab­i­net Af­fairs Sheikh Mo­ham­mad Al-Ab­dul­lah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Di­rec­tor-Gen­eral of the Pub­lic Author­ity for Sports Sheikh Ah­mad Man­sour Al-Ah­mad Al-Sabah and se­nior author­ity of­fi­cials.

Lat­est tech­nol­ogy

On Sun­day, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled said Jaber In­ter­na­tional Sta­dium was built in line with in­ter­na­tional stan­dards and was equipped with lat­est tech­nol­ogy. Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, who chaired a min­is­te­rial com­mit­tee in­spect­ing the sta­dium, told re­porters that he was happy with what he has seen in the venue, which was equipped with mod­ern safety and se­cu­rity sys­tems. He thanked the Amiri Di­wan, Min­is­ter of In­for­ma­tion and Min­is­ter of State for Youth Af­fairs Sheikh Sal­man Al-Sabah and the Pub­lic Author­ity for Sports (PAS) for con­tribut­ing to the Jaber sta­dium.

Sheikh Sal­man Al-Hu­moud Al-Sabah said mean­while that the po­lit­i­cal lead­er­ship was keen on sup­port­ing the sport sec­tor through the de­vel­op­ment of sport fa­cil­i­ties. He thanked all au­thor­i­ties for their ef­forts to make Jaber sta­dium, named af­ter late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ah­mad Al-Jaber AlSabah, ready to host sport events.

Sheikh Sal­man said that Kuwaitis “can be proud that the sta­dium was among the best in the Mid­dle East tech­ni­cally wise.” He said the sta­dium en­coun­tered some tech­ni­cal and ad­min­is­tra­tive prob­lems “but this chap­ter is over now.” Min­is­ter of State for Cab­i­net Af­fairs Sheikh Mo­ham­mad Ab­dul­lah Al-Sabah said “once the in­ter­na­tional ban on Kuwait sport is lifted, we will seek to host in­ter­na­tional teams to play in this sta­dium.”

PAS Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Sheikh Ah­mad Man­sour Al-Sabah ex­pressed grat­i­tude for His High­ness the Amir, His High­ness the Crown Prince and His High­ness the Prime Min­is­ter for their re­lent­less sup­port for sport and sport projects. He said a del­e­ga­tion from the world’s foot­ball gov­ern­ing body (FIFA) rated the Jaber sta­dium nine out of 10. PAS Deputy Di­rec­tor Gen­eral Dr Hmoud Fu­laiteh said the author­ity’s sport fa­cil­i­ties sec­tor com­pleted the main­te­nance of the Jaber sta­dium which has thus be­come ready to host games. Jaber In­ter­na­tional Sta­dium, 12 kilo­me­ters south­west of Kuwait City, is built over 400,000 square me­ters and can house 60,000 fans. The sta­dium, which looks like a sail ship from the out­side, is equipped with LED screens and spi­der cams, and is the only sta­dium in the Mid­dle East with a Goal Con­trol tech­nol­ogy.

Fans will be able to se­lect their seats when they buy the tick­ets, and the sta­dium is equipped with screen­ing ma­chines for bags, mon­i­tor­ing cam­eras of park­ing lots and seat­ing ar­eas, as well as spe­cial rooms for fire­men, po­lice­man and paramedics. The sta­dium has 300 seats for the dis­abled, rooms for the press and news con­fer­ences. — KUNA
