Lundqvist makes 31 saves as Rangers blank Preda­tors 3-0

NEW YORK: Goal­tender Hen­rik Lundqvist con­tin­ued his bril­liant sea­son by stop­ping 31 shots in the New York Rangers’ 3-0 vic­tory over the Nashville Preda­tors. Lundqvist leads the league with 12 wins and also leads in both goals against av­er­age and save per­cent­age be­fore reg­is­ter­ing his sec­ond shutout. Rick Nash and Kevin Hayes and Derek Stepan scored for the Rangers, who have won 11 of 12. Preda­tors goal­tender Pekka Rinne stopped 16 shots.


Right wingers Troy Brouwer and Robby Fab­bri both scored goals as the St. Louis Blues came from be­hind to beat the Buf­falo Sabres. Goal­keeper Jake Allen made 24 saves for the Blues. Cen­ter David Leg­wand scored for the Sabres, who are win­less in their last five games. Rookie goal­tender Li­nus Ull­mark made 24 saves.

CAP­I­TALS 1, OIL­ERS 0 Wash­ing­ton goalie Braden Holtby stopped 33 shots while de­fense­man Dmitry Orlov scored the game’s only goal with 6:32 left as the Cap­i­tals beat the Ed­mon­ton Oil­ers. Holtby pro­duced two strong saves in the third when he robbed de­fense­man Eric Gryba with a sprawl­ing glove save dur­ing a two-on-one break. A minute later he de­nied left winger Tay­lor Hall alone in front. It was Holtby’s first shutout of the sea­son and the 21st of his ca­reer.


Cen­ter Tyler Tof­foli, de­fense­man Alec Martinez and right winger Mar­ian Ga­borik scored goals as the Los An­ge­les Kings de­feated the Florida Pan­thers. Cen­ter Alek­sander Barkov scored for the Pan­thers. Los An­ge­les goal­tender Jonathan Quick made 32 saves. Florida’s Roberto Luongo had 21 stops in place of goal­tender Al Mon­toya, who made eight saves be­fore leav­ing af­ter an in­jury in the first pe­riod.


The Colorado Avalanche capped off a se­v­engame road trip with a 4-1 vic­tory over the Win­nipeg Jets. Cody McLeod scored the goa­head goal at 6:45 of the third pe­riod when de­fense­man Zach Red­mond’s shot car­omed off the left winger and past goal­tender Michael Hutchin­son. Colorado cen­ter Matt Duch­ene then scored his 11th of the sea­son at 16:11 of the third pe­riod on a par­tial break­away be­fore left winger Blake Comeau added an empty-net goal with 1:10 re­main­ing. The Avalanches played seven games in 15 days, tied for the long­est road trip in team history, and posted a 4-3-0 record.


Cen­ter David Krejci scored the only goal in a shootout to give Bos­ton Bru­ins a 4-3 vic­tory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brad Marc­hand and Zac Ri­naldo scored for Bos­ton in reg­u­la­tion. Jof­frey Lupul, Leo Ko­marov and Tyler Bozak scored for Toronto. Bos­ton goal­tender Tuukka Rask stopped 39 shots while Toronto’s James Reimer made 26 saves.


Philadel­phia de­fense­man Shayne Gostis­be­here scored 24 sec­onds into over­time on a power play to help the Fly­ers de­feat the Carolina Hur­ri­canes. Bray­den Schenn and Claude Giroux also scored for the Fly­ers, who won for only the third time in the last 14 games. The Hur­ri­canes lost their eighth game over the last 10. Philadel­phia’s Michal Neu­virth made 31 saves, while Ed­die back stopped 33 shots and is win­less since Oct. 29. —Reuters
