Iran doc­tor wins Kuwait cancer, car­dio­vas­cu­lar dis­eases award

CAIRO: Kuwait’s Health Min­is­ter Dr Ali AlObaidi has handed the Award of Kuwait prize for the con­trol of cancer, car­dio­vas­cu­lar dis­eases and di­a­betes in the Eastern Mediter­ranean Re­gion to Ira­nian Dr Nizal Sar­rafzade­gan. This came in the 63rd ses­sion of the World Health Or­ga­ni­za­tion (WHO) Re­gional Com­mit­tee for the Eastern Mediter­ranean chaired by Dr Al-Obaidi. AlObaidi said in a state­ment to KUNA the Award, es­tab­lished in 2003, was given this year to Pro­fes­sor Dr Nizal Sar­rafzade­gan in recog­ni­tion of her out­stand­ing con­tri­bu­tions in the field of car­dio­vas­cu­lar dis­eases.

He stressed Kuwait’s keen­ness on pro­vid­ing aid and as­sis­tance to health emer­gen­cies and sup­port­ing hu­man­i­tar­ian sit­u­a­tion in the coun­tries of the re­gion, not­ing the direc­tives of His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlAh­mad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in this re­gard. This year’s ses­sion of the WHO Re­gional Com­mit­tee will tackle key tech­ni­cal health is­sues in­clud­ing im­ple­men­ta­tion of the In­ter­na­tional Health Reg­u­la­tions, uni­ver­sal health cov­er­age and the devel­op­ment of a pack­age of es­sen­tial health ser­vices. — KUNA
