Kuwait marks ‘World Teach­ers’ Day

Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion held its an­nual cel­e­bra­tion mark­ing ‘World Teach­ers’ Day’ yes­ter­day at the Min­istry’s the­atre un­der the pa­tron­age of the Min­is­ter of Ed­u­ca­tion and Higher Ed­u­ca­tion Bader Al-Essa. In his speech, Min­is­ter Al-Essa con­grat­u­lated teach­ers on the ef­forts made in skills’ devel­op­ment of “our com­ing gen­er­a­tions to face the fu­ture,” stat­ing the im­por­tance of re­vamp­ing the ed­u­ca­tional sys­tem in or­der to de­velop the coun­try to cope with the fact-de­vel­op­ing tech­nol­ogy around the world.

Min­is­ter Al-Essa added that Kuwait’s first mod­ern school (Al-Mubarakiya School) was founded in the year 1911, where Yousef Bin Issa Al-Qe­naee was its first prin­ci­pal, not­ing that its es­tab­lish­ment marked the be­gin­ning of the mod­ern ed­u­ca­tion in Kuwait. UNESCO and the In­ter­na­tional La­bor Or­ga­ni­za­tion (ILO) have pro­claimed the fifth of Oc­to­ber in year 1994 to be World Teach­ers’ Day and since then the world has been cel­e­brat­ing that day which wit­nessed the sign­ing of an agree­ment to pre­serve teach­ers’ rights be­tween UNESCO and Ed­u­ca­tion In­ter­na­tional (EI) (the global union fed­er­a­tion which rep­re­sents ed­u­ca­tion pro­fes­sion­als world­wide). — KUNA
