Kuwait’s Ice Hockey national team prepares for Asian Winter Games
President of Kuwait Winter Games Club Fuhaid Al-Ajmi said Kuwait’s Ice Hockey national team is working hard in preparing for the Asian Winter Games to be held in Japan next February, with great support from the Public Authority for Sport at all levels.
Al-Ajmi said the team is now training at the skating rink to participate in the reduced Asian tournament to be held in Thailand in October, which the first of several preparation stops leading to the Winter Games in Japan.
He added that the team will hold a training camp abroad for two weeks prior to the games.
He said the national team’s players will join their local clubs following the Thai tournament to launch the local hockey season starting Nov 1, and then they will join the training camp outside Kuwait next January in Sweden.
He said officials and players alike are determined to win a medal for Kuwait during these major games.
Al-Ajmi said Kuwait will play in the third group that includes Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines, Turkmenistan, Malaysia, Macau, India, Bahrain, and Indonesia.
He appreciated the support of PSA to his club in its efforts to win the first medal for Kuwait Winter Sports in this major event.
Kuwait Ice Hockey team made several achievements, most important of which is winning the Asian Challenge Cup, which was hosted by Kuwait two years ago. It also won the Bahrain Open Tournament which was held earlier this year.
