Kuwait’s Ice Hockey na­tional team pre­pares for Asian Win­ter Games

Pres­i­dent of Kuwait Win­ter Games Club Fuhaid Al-Ajmi said Kuwait’s Ice Hockey na­tional team is work­ing hard in pre­par­ing for the Asian Win­ter Games to be held in Ja­pan next Fe­bru­ary, with great sup­port from the Pub­lic Au­thor­ity for Sport at all lev­els.

Al-Ajmi said the team is now train­ing at the skat­ing rink to par­tic­i­pate in the re­duced Asian tour­na­ment to be held in Thai­land in Oc­to­ber, which the first of sev­eral prepa­ra­tion stops lead­ing to the Win­ter Games in Ja­pan.

He added that the team will hold a train­ing camp abroad for two weeks prior to the games.

He said the na­tional team’s play­ers will join their lo­cal clubs fol­low­ing the Thai tour­na­ment to launch the lo­cal hockey sea­son start­ing Nov 1, and then they will join the train­ing camp out­side Kuwait next Jan­uary in Swe­den.

He said of­fi­cials and play­ers alike are de­ter­mined to win a medal for Kuwait dur­ing th­ese ma­jor games.

Al-Ajmi said Kuwait will play in the third group that in­cludes Qatar, Kyr­gyzs­tan, Philip­pines, Turk­menistan, Malaysia, Ma­cau, In­dia, Bahrain, and In­done­sia.

He ap­pre­ci­ated the sup­port of PSA to his club in its ef­forts to win the first medal for Kuwait Win­ter Sports in this ma­jor event.

Kuwait Ice Hockey team made sev­eral achieve­ments, most im­por­tant of which is win­ning the Asian Chal­lenge Cup, which was hosted by Kuwait two years ago. It also won the Bahrain Open Tour­na­ment which was held ear­lier this year.
