Amir hon­ors Kuwaiti wheel­chair cham­pion

KUWAIT: His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ah­mad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has or­dered hon­or­ing Kuwaiti ath­lete Ah­mad Naqa Al-Mu­tairi with the ‘Kuwait first-de­gree medal with the rib­bon’ for win­ning the gold medal in the 100-m wheel­chair race dur­ing the 15th Paralympics tour­na­ment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Deputy Min­is­ter of the Amiri Di­wan Sheikh Ali Jar­rah Al-Sabah said the cham­pion was also awarded KD 50,000 and a hous­ing plot of land. His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ah­mad lauded the distin­guished sports achieve­ment made by Mu­tairi who proved that the Kuwaiti youth could over­come all dif­fi­cul­ties.

Emerg­ing from the au­di­ence with His High­ness the Amir, held at Bayan Palace, the ath­lete Al-Mu­tairi ex­pressed pride for earn­ing His High­ness’ hon­or­ing. “I am proud of this ac­com­plish­ment and by God’s will, I’ll achieve more in the fu­ture,” he said.

Sheikh Sal­man Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hu­moud Al-Sabah, the Min­is­ter of In­for­ma­tion, the Min­is­ter of State for Youth Af­fairs and Board Chair­man of the Pub­lic Au­thor­ity for Sports, ac­com­pa­nied the racer dur­ing His High­ness the Amir’s au­di­ence.

Kuwait’s flag

Ad­dress­ing His High­ness the Amir dur­ing the au­di­ence, Min­is­ter Sheikh Sal­man boast­fully stated that the cham­pion Mu­tairi and the other Kuwaiti ath­letes took part in the Rio com­pe­ti­tions for spe­cial needs, “the Flag of Kuwait .. and they are not sus­pended, grace to God. They have made ex­cel­lent re­sults in the 100-me­ter race scor­ing a new Olympic record.”

Min­is­ter Sheikh Sal­man added that the na­tional sports au­thor­i­ties spe­cial­ized for the Kuwait Dis­abled Sport Club a plan to be im­ple­mented in the com­ing four years, so that fur­ther ac­com­plish­ments can be made.

Elab­o­rat­ing, he in­di­cated that the vic­to­ri­ous cham­pion Mu­tairi, in ad­di­tion to the KD 50,000 award, will be getting an ex­tra monthly fi­nan­cial al­lot­ment in ap­pre­ci­a­tion for his ac­com­plish­ments. Min­is­ter Sheikh Sal­man as­sured His High­ness the Amir that the na­tional sports would make more achieve­ments, “with Your High­ness’s sup­port and en­cour­age­ment.” The au­di­ence was also at­tended by Sheikh Ali Al-Jar­rah and Gen­eral Direc­tor of the pub­lic au­thor­ity, Sheikh Ah­mad Man­sour Al-Ah­mad Al-Sabah.

Out­stand­ing per­for­mance

Mean­while, His High­ness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ah­mad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah re­ceived, Mu­tairi, ac­com­pa­nied by Sheikh Sal­man Al-Hu­moud along with Mem­bers of Kuwait’s Dis­abled Sports Club (KDSC). His High­ness the Crown Prince hailed Mu­tairi’s out­stand­ing per­for­mance, and urged all ath­letes to work harder to achieve more achieve­ments at re­gional and in­ter­na­tional sport events.

The meet­ing was also at­tended by His High­ness the Crown Prince’s Di­wan Pro­to­col Chief Sheikh Mubarak Sabah Al-Salem AlSabah, Honorary Pres­i­dent of Kuwait Dis­abled Sports Club Sheikha Shaikha Ab­dul­lah AlSabah, Direc­tor Gen­eral of PAS Sheikh Ah­mad Man­sour Al-Ah­mad Al-Sabah and his deputy Dr Hu­moud Fleitah.

Later, His High­ness the Prime Min­is­ter Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Ha­mad Al-Sabah re­ceived Mu­tairi, ac­com­pa­nied by Sheikh Sal­man and Dr Fleitah. Dur­ing the meet­ing, His High­ness the Prime Min­is­ter lauded the achieve­ments made by all Kuwaiti cham­pi­ons, and their ef­forts made to raise the Kuwaiti flag at any in­ter­na­tional sports event. —KUNA
