Fo­rum presents Kuwaiti with life­time achieve­ment award

BEIRUT: The Arab Fo­rum for En­vi­ron­ment and De­vel­op­ment (AFED) hon­ored yes­ter­day Kuwait’s Dr Ab­dur­rah­man Al-Awadhi with the life­time achieve­ment award for his ef­forts and ser­vices in the en­vi­ron­men­tal field.

AFED’s Sec­re­tary Gen­eral Na­jib Saab said that Dr Al-Awadhi, for­mer Health Min­is­ter of Kuwait, was among the found­ing fig­ures that helped in the es­tab­lish­ment of the fo­rum. Mean­while, Awadhi said that he was very proud to have re­ceived the AFED award dur­ing a cer­e­mony, held at the Amer­i­can University of Beirut.

He re­vealed that Arab coun­tries had worked ef­fort­lessly in the past few years to push for en­vi­ron­men­tal aware­ness and de­vel­op­ment, not­ing that his coun­try, in the pre­vi­ous two decades, had fo­cused re­lent­lessly on achiev­ing its sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment goals with a keen eye on pro­tect­ing the en­vi­ron­ment. The fo­rum was es­tab­lished in 2006 as a non-profit and non-govern­men­tal in­sti­tute aimed at pro­mot­ing en­vi­ron­ment protection poli­cies in the Arab World.
