KUWAIT: The Kuwait Dive Team yesterday lifted tons of disposed fishing nets north of Kuwait Bay at four meters’ depth, in addition to 20 tons of plastic and wood waste on Oshairij and Doha beaches. The waste poses dangers to navigation of ships and boats as many dead and decaying marine creatures have been entangled in the abandoned nets, thus, causing pollution to the marine environment, the team’s leader Waleed Al-Fadhel said. He called for tightening relevant laws against fishermen with regards to such malpractices and to protect the marine environment of Kuwait. He urged citizens spotting such illegal acts at sea to report to the authorized bodies. — KUNA
