Doha oil meeting ‘positive gesture’

Kuwait Times - - LOCAL -

DOHA: The unofficial meeting of global oil producers in Doha is considered a positive gesture that will hopefully have an impact on the OPEC ministerial meeting due on November 30 in Vienna, said a Kuwaiti official yesterday. Undersecretary at the Ministry of Oil Sheikh Talal Nasser Al-Athbi Al-Sabah told KUNA the meeting touched on issues connected with the global affairs of oil production, adding that one of the chief items of the meeting was OPEC’s intention to reduce the organization’s production. Countries such as Russia and Iran had some positive inputs regarding their desire to reduce production, said Sheikh Talal who hoped OPEC would come up with a decision to decrease its output. The decision will exclude Libya, Nigeria, and Iran, said. The Kuwaiti official lauded the role played by Qatar in the process of finding a balance between supply and demand, stressing that it would be beneficial for producers and consumers.
