The third meet­ing of NATO’s Is­tan­bul Co­op­er­a­tion Ini­tia­tive (ICI) kicked off yes­ter­day with Kuwaiti par­tic­i­pa­tion. In a speech to open the two-day meet­ing, Sec­re­tary Gen­eral of the Qatari For­eign Min­istry Dr Ah­mad bin Has­san Al-Ha­madi un­der­scored that Qatar has long sought to en­hance its ties with NATO, es­pe­cially on is­sues that con­trib­ute to peace and sta­bil­ity in the re­gion.

More­over, on the Gulf na­tion’s re­la­tions with NATO, he said they have made some progress in re­cent years, not­ing that Qatar has par­tic­i­pated in most po­lit­i­cal events or­ga­nized by NATO. On the meet­ing, Al-Ha­madi said it rep­re­sents a valu­able op­por­tu­nity for ICI and NATO mem­ber na­tions to work to­gether to bring goals of restor­ing sta­bil­ity and peace in the world to fruition.
