KU Science Faculty celebrates 50 years
Kuwait University’s Faculty of Science celebrated its golden jubilee at the Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Theatre in Khaldiya yesterday. The celebration was held under the patronage of KU President Prof Hussain Ahmed Al-Ansari and the current Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Abdulhadi Bu-Olayan.
The ceremony began with a documentary depicting the journey of the faculty since its inception, and how it was restored after the liberation of Kuwait, followed by its vision of the future and the aspiration to work at the new campus of Kuwait University in Shadadiya. This was followed by a speech about early pioneers presented by Dr Mustafa Marafi, who made the audience laugh with a poem through which expressed the special connection he has with the Faculty of Science. “The pioneers of science in the Arab world are in fact the reason why we sustain a passion for science - we learned it from them. I see this passion through the love and respect the students give us,” he added. Boy scouts of Qais bin Abi Alas School then performed, and the audience cheered them by waving flags. Later, member of the higher committee and media committee Dr Arafat Al-Shuaibi gave a vote of thanks. He gave special thanks to Kuwaiti veteran actor Jamal AlRadhan and theater and film producer Rashid Al-Mutawa for their outstanding voluntary work for the documentary. The ceremony ended with exhibitions of photography and student activities, followed by lunch.
