Leadership seminar: Disrupt and dominate

- By Ben Garcia

If you want to have a powerful influence over your company and do something extraordinary you have to disrupt the company, and not just sit there and be lazy, a lecturer suggests. “Do something astonishing. Do not stand still; lazy leadership is long gone, you have to be walking on egg shells, taking risks and being careful all the time, be dynamic,” advised Tom McCarthy, an acclaimed consultant and speaker hosted to speak at the ‘Disrupt and Dominate’ leadership seminar held at the Al-Hamra Tower in Sharq on Sunday. The seminar was organized by Mefazec along with Khalid Al-Zanki’s Launch on Fire Company.

“John F Kennedy was able to send a man to the moon, despite the impossibility at that time,” McCarthy said. “Kennedy challenged that within a decade he was going to land a man on the moon. Though it sounded almost impossible, but his words shook engineers and the public, ultimately achieving his goal.”

“BlackBerry was once a leading smartphone company all over the world, when iPhone was launched, they said, ‘iPhone is not our competitor.’ Where is BlackBerry now? If it would have taken iPhone as a threat, it could still have survived,” he argued.

Some of the great points discussed in the seminar were how to become a better leader in your company, how to surround yourself with winners and the mindset to control and elevate your employees’ success. Essa Al-Essa, founder and chairman of Mefazec, said that he was delighted to host such an acclaimed speaker and consultant as McCarthy. Mefazec was happy to enlighten the entrepreneur’s about their businesses and how to reduce their risk of failure. Hosting Tom McCarthy was a great example of how Mefazec supports its community in offering the best advice on how to succeed in the business world.
