Kuwaiti jockey wins gold at Qatar show

Kuwaiti jockey Ali Al-Kharafi won the gold medal late Fri­day dur­ing his par­tic­i­pa­tion in Qatar’s In­ter­na­tional Show Jump­ing Cham­pi­onship which be­gan in the cap­i­tal Doha on Thurs­day. Kharafi man­aged to beat 47 other jock­eys to win the medal. There are about 170 jock­eys from 12 coun­tries, par­tak­ing in the tour­na­ment.

Kharafi said that he was glad to have won the com­pe­ti­tion. He took the time to also com­mend the per­for­mances of his team­mates Shaker Al-Khathmi and Marshoud AlMarshoud who both won the gold and silver medals dur­ing Thurs­day’s com­pe­ti­tion. Kharafi also won a silver medal dur­ing the course of the cham­pi­onship.

Un­for­tu­nately, the Kuwaiti Jock­eys will not be able to record the wins un­der Kuwait’s flag due to the ban im­posed by the In­ter­na­tional Olympic Com­mit­tee (IOC) on Kuwaiti sports. They com­peted un­der the ban­ner of the In­ter­na­tional Fed­er­a­tion for Eques­trian Sports (FEI). The tour­na­ment con­cluded yes­ter­day. — KUNA
