Kuwait Wheelchair bas­ket­ball team hon­ored as cham­pi­ons

Kuwait’s Wheelchair team was hon­ored on Sun­day as cham­pion in the con­clud­ing cer­e­mony of the 8th GCC Wheelchair Bas­ket­ball Cham­pi­onship, hosted in New York Univer­sity’s Abu Dhabi, af­ter de­feat­ing last night Saudi Ara­bia 62-56.

The Kuwaiti team with eight points won the cham­pi­onship, fol­lowed by Bahrain with six points af­ter beat­ing UAE 52-47, while Oman took fifth place with four points.

Kuwaiti player Yosif Ah­mad Kha­laf won best scorer in the tour­na­ment, and Bahraini Na­bil Al-Dosari won best three­p­oint shooter award.

Kuwait’s em­bassy First Sec­re­tary Nasser Aba Al-Khail praised, in a state­ment to KUNA, Kuwaiti team per­for­mance and achieve­ment for the eight con­sec­u­tive time.

For his part, Kha­laf in a sep­a­rate state­ment to KUNA, said that such achieve­ment by the team comes as a re­sult of co­op­er­a­tion and ef­forts ex­erted by the play­ers, ad­min­is­tra­tors, and train­ers. Last night, fol­low­ing the win, Shafi Al-Ha­jri, pres­i­dent of Kuwait Dis­abled Sport Club, hailed Kuwaiti play­ers’ per­for­mance through­out the cham­pi­onship. For his part, Ah­mad Al-Shatti, the team’s as­sis­tant coach, lauded the Kuwaiti team for ad­her­ence by the di­rec­tions and in­struc­tions made by the tech­ni­cal and ad­min­is­tra­tive teams that con­trib­uted to win­ing the match. — KUNA
