Kuwaiti Govt will­ing to work with assem­bly over ‘strate­gic al­ter­na­tive’

KUWAIT:

Min­is­ter of State for Cab­i­net Af­fairs Sheikh Mo­ham­mad Ab­dul­lah Al-Mubarak AlSabah said yesterday the gov­ern­ment is ready to co­op­er­ate with the Na­tional Assem­bly over pay scale amend­ments, also known as the ‘strate­gic al­ter­na­tive’.

The min­is­ter was re­spond­ing to a ques­tion dur­ing an or­di­nary par­lia­men­tary ses­sion held yesterday to look into the pay scale of civil ser­vants. He added that the gov­ern­ment had voiced its views on the pro­posed changes to the pay sys­tem, which are still within the purview of the par­lia­ment.

Youth de­vel­op­ment

Mean­while, Min­is­ter of In­for­ma­tion and Min­is­ter of State for Youth Af­fairs Sheikh Sal­man Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hu­moud Al-Sabah said yesterday the State of Kuwait had notched up quan­tum jumps in the Global Youth De­vel­op­ment In­dex (YDI) over the last three years. Speak­ing dur­ing the ses­sion, the min­is­ter said Kuwait had jumped to the 56th spot in 2016 from the 110th in the previous re­port is­sued in 2013.

The min­is­ter was re­spond­ing to a par­lia­men­tary re­quest for set­ting up an ad hoc com­mit­tee for im­prov­ing the busi­ness en­vi­ron­ment. “The State has made much head­way in the es­tab­lish­ment of the Na­tional Fund for Small and Medium-Sized En­ter­prises just out of its care and at­ten­tion to young peo­ple,” he added. He pointed out that the com­mit­tee would be cer­tainly in the in­ter­est of ev­ery­one, mainly young peo­ple. —KUNA
