Kuwait’s vic­to­ri­ous wheelchair bas­ket­ball team re­turns home

Kuwait’s wheelchair bas­ket­ball team re­turned Mon­day from Abu Dhabi af­ter win­ning the eighth Gulf tour­na­ment there and con­tin­ued its dom­i­nance over the tour­na­ment since its launch 16 years ago.

The team was re­ceived at the air­port by Di­rec­tor Gen­eral of Dis­abil­ity Pub­lic Au­thor­ity Dr Shaifqa Al-Awadhi, Deputy Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Au­thor­ity for Sports Dr Hu­moud Fu­laiteh, Deputy Chair­man of Kuwait Dis­abled Sports Club Nasser Al-Ajmi, Sec­re­tary Ab­dal­lah Al-Azmi and a large crowd.

Dr Fu­laiteh lauded the achieve­ments of Kuwait Dis­abled ath­letes, adding that this lat­est achieve­ment was made due to the dis­tin­guished per­for­mance of KDSC board of di­rec­tors and the ef­forts of the team’s mem­bers. He said this win comes as a com­ple­tion of the suc­cess­ful march of the dis­abled sports in for­eign par­tic­i­pa­tion.

Mean­while, KDSC Chair­man of the Board ded­i­cated the win to HH the Amir, HH the Crown Prince and all Kuwait peo­ple and lauded the per­for­mance of ath­letes dur­ing the tour­na­ment which wit­nessed four con­sec­u­tive wins. He said the tour­na­ment was tough and com­pet­i­tive, adding that Kuwait’s win over Saudi Ara­bia with the score of 62/56 was the key for Kuwait’s win of the ti­tle for the 16th year. He pointed to the sup­port of In­for­ma­tion Min­is­ter, Sports Min­is­ter for Youth Af­fairs Sheikh Sal­man Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hu­moud AlSabah and PAS which re­sulted in the club’s win­ning of many tour­na­ments.

Mean­while, Kuwait’s team cap­tain Essa AlFadhly said, he along with his team­mates are happy for win­ning the tour­na­ment for the eighth time, adding the team is look­ing for­ward for more wins in the fu­ture. Kuwait won the ti­tle with four wins and 8 points, fol­lowed by the Saudi team with 7 points, Bahrain was third with 6 points, UAE fourth with 5 points and Oman fifth with four points.
