Iraq wel­comes Kuwait’s plan to hold con­fer­ence

Head of the Iraq Mis­sion to the EU and Iraqi Am­bas­sador in Bel­gium Jawad Al Hin­dawi wel­comed His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ah­mad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s readi­ness to host an in­ter­na­tional con­fer­ence on Iraq’s re­con­struc­tion later this year. “We are very happy of this im­i­ta­tive. We take highly into con­sid­er­a­tion this im­i­ta­tive by His High­ness the Amir of Kuwait,” he told a press con­fer­ence at the Brus­sels Press Club Fri­day. “We ex­pect more co­op­er­a­tion from Arab coun­tries, es­pe­cially Kuwait, in or­der to con­tinue fight­ing the ter­ror­ist group the so-called Is­lamic State not only mil­i­tar­ily but also ide­o­log­i­cally,” he said.

The Iraqi diplo­mat ex­pressed con­vic­tion that the de­feat of IS in Mo­sul is the be­gin­ning of a new phase in Iraq and the re­gion, and ap­pealed to the EU to in­ten­sify co­op­er­a­tion with the cen­tral gov­ern­ment in Bagh­dad to pro­mote po­lit­i­cal, so­cial, se­cu­rity and eco­nomic chal­lenges that are fac­ing Iraq.

Last Mon­day, His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ah­mad AlJaber Al-Sabah con­grat­u­lated Iraqi Pres­i­dent Fuad Ma­sum and Prime Min­is­ter Haidar Al-Abadi on the lib­er­a­tion of the city of Mo­sul from the so-called Is­lamic State (IS). His High­ness the Amir also an­nounced that Kuwait was ready to host an in­ter­na­tional con­fer­ence on the re­con­struc­tion of lib­er­ated ar­eas in Iraq be­fore the end of this year.

His High­ness the Amir made the re­mark dur­ing a phone call with AlAbadi to congratulate him on the “his­toric vic­tory” on IS in Mo­sul. His High­ness the Amir hoped the vic­tory would boost Iraq’s unity, se­cu­rity and sta­bil­ity, and lead to the re­con­struct­ing of lib­er­ated ar­eas, and the re­turn of refugees to their towns and vil­lages. — KUNA
