Gulf Bank Plat­inum Spon­sor of 29th Memo­rial Jour­ney for Pearl Div­ing

Gulf Bank is pleased to be a plat­inum spon­sor of the 29th Memo­rial Jour­ney for Pearl Div­ing for the 8th con­sec­u­tive year. The jour­ney, which be­gins on July 27 and ends on Au­gust 3, is or­ga­nized on yearly bases by the Com­mit­tee of the Ma­rine Her­itage of the Kuwait Sea Sport Club, un­der the Pa­tron­age of His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed AlJaber Al-Sabah.

The jour­ney will kick off at 8:30 am on Thurs­day, July 27 to start with a spe­cial ‘Al-Dasha’ cer­e­mony. The dhows will leave car­ry­ing cap­tains as well as other par­tic­i­pants head­ing to Ban­dar Al-Khairan for an en­tire week trip. The re­turn cer­e­mony ‘Al-Qof­fal’ is planned for the af­ter­noon of Thurs­day, 3 Au­gust, 2017.

The Pearl Div­ing Memo­rial Jour­ney is one of the ini­tia­tives that Gulf Bank spon­sors it on an an­nual ba­sis, it forms a key part of its long-term com­mit­ment to pre­serv­ing the her­itage and con­tin­u­ing the tra­di­tions of Kuwait’s unique past. The Jour­ney aims to re­mind young Kuwaiti gen­er­a­tions of the dif­fi­cul­ties and chal­lenges faced by their fore­fa­thers in earn­ing their liv­ing, along with a mes­sage urg­ing th­ese gen­er­a­tions to up­hold the tra­di­tions and val­ues their an­ces­tors de­vel­oped dur­ing that time.

The jour­ney is or­ga­nized each year by the Com­mit­tee of the Ma­rine Her­itage of the Kuwait Sea Sport Club, which has Kuwaiti sailors us­ing dhows to sail great dis­tances away from their fam­i­lies and to dive for pearls in the tra­di­tional way.
