Le­ices­ter sign Coven­try City young­ster Thomas

LON­DON: Le­ices­ter City signed promis­ing young Coven­try City for­ward Ge­orge Thomas for an undis­closed fee yes­ter­day. Le­ices­ter-born Thomas has agreed a three-year con­tract with the Premier League club af­ter his Coven­try deal ex­pired at the end of last sea­son. Craig Shake­speare’s side made a com­pen­sa­tion pay­ment to the League Two team for Thomas, who can also play in mid­field and is set to be part of Le­ices­ter’s de­vel­op­ment squad this sea­son. “I’m de­lighted to get it over the line fi­nally and I’m look­ing for­ward to the sea­son com­ing and see­ing what I can do,” Thomas told Le­ices­ter’s web­site. Thomas came through the ranks at Coven­try and scored nine times in 36 ap­pear­ances for the Sky Blues last sea­son, in­clud­ing the win­ner in the EFL Tro­phy fi­nal against Ox­ford United. The 20-year-old, who made his Coven­try de­but four years ago, rep­re­sented Wales at this sum­mer’s Toulon Tour­na­ment. — AFP
