Phase 1 of Mina Al-Ah­madi sul­fur project op­er­ated

KUWAIT: The first phase of Mina AlAh­madi Re­fin­ery Sul­fur Han­dling Fa­cil­i­ties Project (SHFP) - re­vamp and new - has been op­er­ated, the Kuwait National Pe­tro­leum Com­pany (KNPC) said yes­ter­day. The op­er­a­tion fea­tured the first ex­port ship­ment of sul­fur gran­ules from Mina Al-Ah­madi’s Pier 30, on the ves­sel LADY AMNA, ca­pac­ity of 32,000 tons, KNPC’s CEO Mo­ham­mad Al-Mu­tairi. Mu­tairi added that the first phase in­cludes op­er­at­ing four reser­voirs with to­tal ca­pac­ity of 18,820 met­ric tons, and five sul­fur gran­ules units with pro­duc­tion of 5,000 met­ric tons daily. In ad­di­tion, there is a reser­voir for gran­ules, 145,000 tons, and an in­de­pen­dent solid sul­fur pier for 60,000 dead­weight (DWT) ships, he noted. The se­cond phase, to­tally re­vamp­ing the ex­ist­ing sul­fur pro­cess­ing fa­cil­i­ties, will be com­pleted by De­cem­ber 2019, the CEO ex­plained said. — KUNA
