Campaign spreads awareness of helpers’ rights
KUWAIT: Human Line Organization (HLO) and the Social Activity Society launched their ‘Under One Roof’ campaign in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and other relevant government bodies with the aim of boosting awareness of domestic helpers’ rights. HLO representative Lolwa Al-Redaini stressed that the campaign stems from participating bodies’ commitment to enhancing humanitarian activities in Kuwait through enlightening both employers and domestic helpers of their rights.
Redaini added that the campaign will also work on publishing a legal guide translated into 15 languages. She added that the guide will be available at care centers, hospitals, police stations, embassies of domestic helpers, labor recruitment offices, money exchanges, co-ops and other facilities.
Social Activity Society’s Chairperson Sheikha Bibi Al-Sabah stressed that the campaign aims at putting the domestic helpers’ law that was passed three years earlier into practice. She said the campaign will comprise of seminars and symposiums to be organized at various schools and universities to boost youth awareness. She added that the campaign also aims at spreading the culture of tolerance, accepting others and accepting that a household job should be regulated by laws. She said the campaign will closely cooperate with the foreign ministry to include Kuwaiti embassies abroad and provide them with the translated brochures.
MoI’s media security director Brig Tawheed Al-Kandari stressed that the campaign conforms to the ministry’s humanitarian policy focusing on cooperation to achieve a good and just employer-worker relationship. Zain’s Communications and Relations Executive Manager Waleed Al-Khashti expressed his pride in taking part in the campaign as part of Zain’s social responsibility strategy.
