Latvians abroad express increased interest to restore Latvian citizenship
The interest of Latvians living abroad, especially UK, Ireland, Germany, USA and Israel, has increased lately, noted Foreign Affairs Minister Edgars Rinkevics in the annual report on the ministry’s accomplishments in foreign policy and EU matters.
The report mentions that Latvia’s embassies around the world had received 3,676 citizenship registration applications in the first three quarters of 2016. In addition, Latvia’s diplomatic and consular offices abroad had also received 127,134 visa applications. These indexes are similar to the level of 2015, demonstrating the stabilization of the number of received visa applications. This year, the state collected visa issue fees worth a total of EUR 4,550,159.
In total, Latvian diplomatic and consular offices abroad provided 66,495 services in the first three quarters of 2016, administering consular and state fees worth EUR 1,436,674.
In addition, 83,408 free services have been provided this year as well, especially in the UK, Ireland and Germany.
