Lat­vians abroad ex­press in­creased in­ter­est to re­store Lat­vian cit­i­zen­ship

The in­ter­est of Lat­vians liv­ing abroad, es­pe­cially UK, Ire­land, Ger­many, USA and Israel, has in­creased lately, noted For­eign Af­fairs Min­is­ter Edgars Rinke­vics in the an­nual re­port on the min­istry’s ac­com­plish­ments in for­eign pol­icy and EU mat­ters.

The re­port men­tions that Latvia’s em­bassies around the world had re­ceived 3,676 cit­i­zen­ship reg­is­tra­tion ap­pli­ca­tions in the first three quar­ters of 2016. In ad­di­tion, Latvia’s diplo­matic and con­sular of­fices abroad had also re­ceived 127,134 visa ap­pli­ca­tions. Th­ese in­dexes are sim­i­lar to the level of 2015, demon­strat­ing the sta­bi­liza­tion of the num­ber of re­ceived visa ap­pli­ca­tions. This year, the state col­lected visa is­sue fees worth a to­tal of EUR 4,550,159.

In to­tal, Lat­vian diplo­matic and con­sular of­fices abroad pro­vided 66,495 services in the first three quar­ters of 2016, ad­min­is­ter­ing con­sular and state fees worth EUR 1,436,674.

In ad­di­tion, 83,408 free services have been pro­vided this year as well, es­pe­cially in the UK, Ire­land and Ger­many.
