Number of tourists from UK, USA and Finland staying in Latvia increases
A total of 862.3 thousand visitors stayed at Latvian accommodation establishments over Q3 2016. The average duration of a visitor’s stay at an accommodation establishment was 1.9 nights.
Over Q3, 584.9 thousand foreign visitors were hosted at accommodation establishments, of whom 32.2% were visitors from neighbouring countries – of the total number of foreign visitors 11.7% were from Russia, 10.6 % from Lithuania, 8.1% from Estonia and 1.8% from Belarus, according to the latest data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
Most of the foreign visitors in Q3 came from Germany (82.8 thousand) and our neighbouring countries – Russia (68.6 thousand), Lithuania (61.8 thousand) and Estonia (47.6 thousand). There has been a significant increase in the number of visitors from the United Kingdom (of 28.6%), the USA (of 24%), Finland (of 22.2%), Denmark (21.6%), as well as Poland (of 19.6%), Spain (of 18.1%) and Italy (of 16.4%). The number of visitors from Russia has remained at the level of Q3 the previous year (a drop of 0.1%). There were less foreign visitors from Sweden (by 12.1 %), Switzerland (by 5.2%), Japan (by 4.7%) and the Czech Republic (by 4%). In details watch on-line version.
