LMT in­stalls the first mo­bile 5G con­nec­tion sta­tion in Latvia

Latvi­jas Mo­bi­lais Tele­fons has in­stalled the first 5G tech­nolo­gies com­pat­i­ble mo­bile com­mu­ni­ca­tions sta­tion in Latvia, as con­firmed by the com­pany.

As it is known, LMT and Nokia telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions net­work in­fra­struc­ture man­u­fac­turer plan to be among the first to in­tro­duce 5G in Europe. The first 5G con­nec­tion sta­tion has been in­stalled at the new Nat­u­ral Sciences Cen­tre of the Univer­sity of Latvia in Tor­nakalns.

‘It is sym­bol­i­cal for the first 5G con­nec­tion sta­tion to be set up at the Univer­sity of Latvia – an in­sti­tu­tion with strong aca­demic and re­search tra­di­tions. Latvia as a coun­try of smart tech­nolo­gies has clever peo­ple, in­no­va­tive tech­nolo­gies and pow­er­ful part­ner­ship in the base of its de­vel­op­ment po­ten­tial. We will con­tinue es­tab­lish­ing new 5G-ca­pa­ble sta­tions across all of Latvia this year,’ com­ments LMT pres­i­dent Juris Binde. Mo­bile net­work rep­re­sen­ta­tives note that 5G is be­lieved to be the engine for a new in­dus­trial rev­o­lu­tion to help au­to­mate com­pli­cated tasks.

Nokia and LMT agreed on part­ner­ship for the de­vel­op­ment and test­ing of 5G tech­nolo­gies. LMT also co­op­er­ates with Riga Tech­ni­cal Univer­sity in re­search of 5G tech­nolo­gies and in­tro­duc­tion of us­able mod­els.
