Cargo turnover of Ventspils port’s ter­mi­nals in­creases

April of 2017 was far more suc­cess­ful for ter­mi­nals work­ing at Ventspils port than the same month of last year. Ter­mi­nals pro­cessed 2.4 mil­lion tonnes of car­goes, which is 60% more when com­pared with April of 2016, as BNN was in­formed by Trans­port Min­istry.

In the first four months of 2017, Ventspils port ter­mi­nals trans­shipped a to­tal of 9.5 mil­lion tonnes of car­goes – 25% more than last year.

Pri­vate ter­mi­nals work­ing at Ventspils Freeport trans­shipped 1.9 mil­lion tonnes more than last uear. This year’s planned vol­ume has been ex­ceeded by 2.8 mil­lion tonnes.

Rail­way cargo car­rier Baltic Ex­press more than tripled its in­dexes in Q1. While in Q1 2016 the to­tal vol­ume of car­goes trans­ported by Baltic Ex­press was 911,898, this year’s re­sults have al­ready reached 3,124,879 tonnes, which is a record for the com­pany, as re­ported by Inga An­tane, Pres­i­dent of Baltic As­so­ci­a­tion – Trans­port and Lo­gis­tics.

The largest vol­ume in­crease was ex­pe­ri­enced by Baltic Ex­press in March, when the vol­ume of car­goes more than quadru­pled, reach­ing 415% in com­par­i­son with March 2016. Cargo turnover rate has shown signs of con­tin­u­ous growth – com­pared with last year, the vol­ume car­ried in Jan­uary reached 310% and the vol­ume car­ried in Fe­bru­ary – 316%. ‘The num­ber of pas­sen­gers and car­goes car­ried by Stena Line fer­ries tra­di­tion­ally con­tin­ues to in­crease. Com­pared with the same pe­riod of last year, the ferry line be­tween Ventspils and Nynäshamn in Swe­den was used by 11,928 (+26%) more pas­sen­gers than a year ago.
