Cargo turnover of Ventspils port’s terminals increases
April of 2017 was far more successful for terminals working at Ventspils port than the same month of last year. Terminals processed 2.4 million tonnes of cargoes, which is 60% more when compared with April of 2016, as BNN was informed by Transport Ministry.
In the first four months of 2017, Ventspils port terminals transshipped a total of 9.5 million tonnes of cargoes – 25% more than last year.
Private terminals working at Ventspils Freeport transshipped 1.9 million tonnes more than last uear. This year’s planned volume has been exceeded by 2.8 million tonnes.
Railway cargo carrier Baltic Express more than tripled its indexes in Q1. While in Q1 2016 the total volume of cargoes transported by Baltic Express was 911,898, this year’s results have already reached 3,124,879 tonnes, which is a record for the company, as reported by Inga Antane, President of Baltic Association – Transport and Logistics.
The largest volume increase was experienced by Baltic Express in March, when the volume of cargoes more than quadrupled, reaching 415% in comparison with March 2016. Cargo turnover rate has shown signs of continuous growth – compared with last year, the volume carried in January reached 310% and the volume carried in February – 316%. ‘The number of passengers and cargoes carried by Stena Line ferries traditionally continues to increase. Compared with the same period of last year, the ferry line between Ventspils and Nynäshamn in Sweden was used by 11,928 (+26%) more passengers than a year ago.
