Num­ber of tourists to Riga up 7% in 2017

In the first three months of 2017, a to­tal of 263.5 thou­sand peo­ple were ser­viced in Riga’s ho­tels and tourist ac­com­mo­da­tions. 221.3 thou­sand of those tourists were for­eign guests.

Com­pared with the same pe­riod of last year, the num­ber of tourists has grown 7%.

The num­ber of nights spent in Riga has grown 4%, ac­cord­ing to data from Riga Tourism Devel­op­ment Bureau com­piled by Cen­tral Sta­tis­ti­cal Bureau of Latvia.

The ma­jor­ity of tourists stay­ing in Riga’s ho­tels and other ac­com­mo­da­tions came from Rus­sia (19.9%), fol­low­ing tourists from Es­to­nia (10.3%), Lithua­nia (10%), UK (7%), Ger­many (7%), Nor­way (5.4%), Swe­den (5.4%) and Fin­land (4.3%).

The largest in­crease of tourists was from RTAB tar­get mar­kets in the first three months of the year was noted from USA (40%), Swe­den (20%), France and Rus­sia (14%), Be­larus (12%), Es­to­nia and Lithua­nia (9%).

«We ac­tively work on dif­fer­ent for­eign mar­kets, pro­mot­ing travel to trav­ellers from dif­fer­ent coun­tries. Our neigh­bours gave us a pleas­ant sur­prise this year by trav­el­ling more of­ten in the first three months of the year than tourists from Ger­many, who usu­ally stay in the lead in statis­tics,» adds RTAB chair­per­son Vita Jer­molovica. 130 tourist ac­com­mo­da­tion es­tab­lish­ments worked in Riga in the first three months of 2017. A to­tal of 15,643 bed­rooms were avail­able to tourists.
