Weather hurts business of tourist accommodation establishments in Latvia
Overall summer activity in countryside tourist accommodation establishments remains below the activity recorded in previous years because of poor weather, says Latvian Country Tourism association ‘Lauku ceļotājs’ representative Anna Palelione.
She says the association does not currently have comprehensive statistical data that would accurately reflect the situation. However, it can be concluded from opinions voiced by businessmen that activity has declined significantly this summer.
At the same time, Palelione says it will be possible to comment on results at the end of the season, when statistical data will be made available.
A similar picture is described by camping site representatives, saying that this year’s activity has been worse than last year’s so far.
According to Agrita Sulca, administrator of ‘Ronīši’ seaside camping site in Engure, this year’s summer can be barely considered that because weather so far has not be very summer-like. «This year’s summer season is worse than last year’s season. People cancel booking arrangements because it’s rainy and the sea is cold,» says Sulca. ‘Jūrmala’ camping site administrator Edijs Meiksa notes this year’s activity is satisfactory even though it was poor in June. At the same time, he says the general influx of people was definitely better in last year’s June. Meiksa does hopes this summer season turns out good.
‘Jūrasdzeņi’ camping in Lielupe administrator Agate Blumina says the number of people going camping in tents has declined this year. She does add that the beginning of summer was cold last year.
